tough topic for me.... i dig them both...
perhaps that is because i'm american, i dunno.
for those of you who don't know... apparently
there is (has been) an issue between robert
smith and morrissey....
evidently morrissey chides smith because the
bulk of his (smith's) audience is american...
and hense, not true to his native form (english).
word has it, morrissey made a comment similar
to: "i wouldn't want to have his fans"
referring to the american public.
i no longer know where to find the interview,
but supposedly robert smith was asked how
he felt about morrissey and his comments.
at face (printed) value, smith said that
american fans are no different than british
fans... and that he is appreciative of
his fans on both sides of the water...
this has been *somewhat* of a heated debate
for those that care...
personally, i can see why morrissey would
say such a thing... its not that he really
sees american fans in a negative light...
but so much that he tours GB way more than
smith does. another angle is that morrissey
has been in consistant trouble with
the royal powers for his non-chalant expressions
of hypocrisy and bad-form within the royal
house.
apparently the moz wishes to confront smith
in the fact that he feels smith is another
'great cultural power' from england...
and should use his power in a similar way.
honestly... i don't give a shit. i like
the moz for different reasons than i like
smith. if we are talking in terms of seniority,
i've listened to smith MUCH longer than
the moz... @ 14 years and 9 years respectively.
what do you think?
(you don't have to listen to the music in
order to confront the issue of the comment
made by morrissey... however, any previous
experience in terms of the music helps, i guess)

i have to side with smith on this issue (although I might be a tad bit baised), I don't see why morrissey should have a problem with smith/the cure having more american fans then english. Why is it any of his business?
I can see why he personally would want more english fans, and good for him to be able to accomplish that. But for there to be an "issue" between the two singers on the topic of fan base, that's just dumb.

Hahah, I was gonna say the same thing!
I don't really have any constructive input on the topic but I noticed you said one of them has toured the UK much more than the US... well I just wanna say that Amen have done that too. Excitement plus.
